JBFC Prepares for 2nd Secondary Graduation
December 1, 2016 5:41 pmKITONGO, TANZANIA- Tomorrow, December 2, 2016, JBFC will be celebrating a monumental accomplishment for 17 Form 4 (US 11thGrade) students – graduation. In Tanzania, this milestone, which is often taken for granted in Western countries, can be far out of reach for many youth in Tanzania, especially for girls. Only 1 in 4 girls in Tanzania ever start secondary school, and even fewer finish.
“We are extremely proud of all 17 students who are preparing to walk the stage tomorrow, especially our 4 residential girls- Kulwa, Rose, Neema Msafiri, and Vero. I can’t believe how quickly they have grown up since they originally came to JBFC, but I am so proud of the young ladies they have become,” said JBFC Founder and CEO Chris Gates.
Several hundred students, family members, community members and even a few government officials will attend the ceremony. All of the classes are expected to perform hand-written songs, poems and skits as a send off to the graduates. There will be a special surprise guest of honor who will address the entire crowd, and all 17 graduates will be able to cross the stage and receive their diplomas.
After the official ceremony, JBFC will welcome all of the new graduates and guests to a massive feast, featuring a locally spiced rice, beans, veggies, meat, fruit, and of course, soda!
