BRIGHT SPOTS

Sustainability & Ownership: Campus Updates

For this past year and a half, there has been a constant need to pivot, get creative, and work in an ever-changing world. Many in the nonprofit field have struggled to stay afloat and care for those in need, but we are so grateful at Mainsprings to be able to continue to grow and serve our children and their communities in a time of need. This is greatly due to your incredible generosity and continued support of our mission; however, this month we want to highlight our incredible teams in Tanzania for their creativity, ownership, and improved sustainability efforts on both of our campuses.

Since last summer, our teams have been diligently working to improve both the physical look of both of our campuses, as well as improve our sustainability efforts so that your donation can stretch even further! It has meant that we have not only survived as an organization, but thrived! We are extremely excited by the ownership our staff has taken of our mission. Here are just a few things that our teams at Kitongo and Kahunda have done with only in-country income and using resources already available on our campuses!

New windows at the Kitongo Primary School!

Our team took some trees from our campus, sold some livestock and produce, and were able to get these beautiful new wooden windows installed to protect our classrooms, students, and supplies during the rainy season.

New look to our library and science lab!

Our team took some extra river rock available from a nearby construction project and made our library and science block look brand new- and ultimately making it extremely durable.

Beautiful gardens at Kahunda!

Our team at Kahunda wanted a nice place for our residential girls, students, and guests alike to have a new outdoor space to relax and meet- all made with materials from that campus!

Expanded pig projects on both campuses!

Our teams on both campuses have greatly expanded the pens for pigs and, in the past year alone, have doubled the production of pigs! The teams have been doing a great job of taking the extra pigs to market for even more income in Tanzania and providing pork products for others in the community to purchase.

New tables and benches for our Kitongo School Dining Hall!

Our team at Kahunda wanted a nice place for our residential girls, students, and guests alike to have a new outdoor space to relax and meet- all made with materials from that campus!

As you can see, Mainsprings truly is a global family, with members from around the world working together to uplift our communities and helping to expand our programs and services we offer. While there is still so much to do, we are thankful to each of you, as well as our incredible team in Tanzania, for helping to move our mission further and further ahead! Thank you Mainsprings family for your incredible service and support! -Chris Gates, Founder & CEO
