Governance

Mainsprings exists today because of the generosity of our faithful donors. Over 90 percent of our budget comes from individuals and family foundations. Since our founding in 2006, we have been able to build, grow, and evolve because of your generous support. Thanks to your generosity we’ve set in motion long-lasting change in East Africa!

We believe in being good stewards of your gifts and strive to operate with transparency. Our Board of Directors oversees the usage of money throughout the organization and the majority of our funds directly support our projects in Tanzania.

This page illustrates how your donations are spent in Tanzania. However, not all of our funds come from donations. From charging a modest tuition, to selling crops and livestock at the local market, to running Papa’s- an on campus restaurant and lodge- Mainsprings practices its philosophy of self-sustainability day in and day out. We believe that in order to make long-lasting change throughout Tanzania and rural East Africa, it is important that our community members understand they have the resources and ability to live a productive, sustainable life.

This not only allows Mainsprings to plant roots in our communities, but also enables the organization to spend more of our funds on expansion and capital development in the places that need it most.
